REEF COTTAGE – Bed & Breakfast and Cafe
As one of the few remaining original buildings in the heart of Reefton, Reef Cottage was built in 1887 during the gold rush for Patterson and Sons Barristers and Solicitors. Playing a key role in the development of the town and district, it now provides you with aunique chance to stay in a converted heritage commercial building steeped in history and a part of Reefton’s main street for nearly 130 years.
In2015, we carefully renovated, adding new ensuites to all the bedrooms, with one built into the original walk in safe from 1887, high quality fixtures and fittings as well as a new full kitchen and lounge. We wanted to create high quality accommodation all while respecting the buildings heritage and enhancing its original features. We achieved a 4★+ Qualmark rating, the highest on offer in Reefton.
Reef Cottage is located between Victoria Forest Park and Paparoa National park providing access to over 200 kilometers of trout fishing rivers surrounding Reefton. Guests can also enjoy exploring the historic Gold fields, tramping trails, mountain biking, rafting and taking scenic tours and four wheel-drive treks.
Reefton’s central location in the West Coast makes Reef Cottage an ideal base for day trips to Murchison, Westport, Punakaiki, Greymouth, Lake Brunner, South Westland, Maruia and Hanmer Springs.
Situated at 55 Broadway we are central to all the towns amenities and the Inangahua River. With 3 Hotels and restaurants, 2 supermarkets, information centre, heated swimming pool and picture theatre only 100 metres away.
We want you to have the best experience while staying at Reef Cottage
Our goal is for you to have the best stay possible, and we believe we have thought of everything possible our guests may need.
We purchased the property in 1995 with the existing building, which is now the Bed and Breakfast as well as another two commercial buildings next door which we have converted and restored into a café as well as our own home.
Susan is a fourth generation Reeftonite with strong family ties to the district and Ronnie has lived in the district for many years. We are passionate about Reefton, its heritage and the point of difference the town offers to visitors. We have two grown up children who have both left home, we also have two dogs, Van and Roxy who are Staffordshire Bull Terriers. They are extremely friendly and live with us in our house.
We endeavor for guests to have the best stay possible. It is our desire to provide high quality accommodation with superior kiwi hospitality to all kinds of travellers alike, all while giving them the chance to stay in a building rich in history that boasts both character and charm.
We do live on site, however our house is separate to the Bed and Breakfast in the building next door.
